Ø      What is a charter school?                           

A charter school is a type of public school. Charter schools provide education through a "charter," which is a type of contract granted by a chartering entity such as the State Board of Education or the board of trustees of an independent school district.

 

Ø      What are the purposes of charter schools?

o       The purposes of charter schools are to:

o       · Improve student learning.

o       · Increase the choice of learning opportunities within the public school system.

o       · Create professional opportunities that will attract new teachers to the public school system.

o       · Establish a new form of accountability for public schools.

o       · Encourage different and innovative learning methods.

Ø      Who can apply?

Harmony Science Academy (HSA) is open for all students who are seriously considering getting a good quality education.

Ø      What grade levels do you serve?

HSA will be serving K through 8th grades during the 2009-2010 school year. One grade level will be added each year and eventually will serve K-12. 

Ø      Do you charge tuition?

No, HSA is a public charter school and funded by state and federal government.

Ø      Do you provide extra-curricular activities?

Yes, we do provide extra-curricular activities including art club, sport teams, science competition teams, and many other clubs. 

Ø      Are the students tested to be accepted to the school?

HSA, being an open enrollment charter school, does not test students as part of the admission process.

Ø      Do you meet with students and parents during admission process?

Yes, we do meet with both students and parents to inform them and answer their questions about the school’s philosophy and goals.

Ø      Do you provide transportation?

Unfortunately, we do not provide transportation.

Ø      Do students wear uniform?

Yes, HSA is a uniform school.
